Love Mondays 135: Embracing the Classic Art of Doodling

Monday Musing:

What if I told you that doodling could be the key to unlocking your creativity and soothing your mind?

How often do you find yourself lost in doodling? In a world dominated by screens and digital distractions, the simple pleasure of putting pen to paper seems to have faded away. Gone are the days when our desks were scattered with pens, pencils, and sheets of paper just waiting to be adorned with our idle creations.

There was something magical about doodling, wasn’t there? It wasn’t about creating a masterpiece (at least in my case it never was!); it was about letting your mind wander freely and expressing yourself in the margins of your notes as you tuned out during a boring meeting (I mean not that we’re ever in those… right? 😉 ).

But it turns out that neuroscience has given us the green light for our doodling habits, even in engaging meetings! Research has found that doodling and listening go hand in hand, keeping our minds engaged and in a state of “pure listening” akin to meditation.

And it doesn’t stop there. Studies have also shown that doodling can do wonders for our well-being. It’s not just a mindless distraction; it’s a stress-reliever, a problem-solving enhancer, and a creativity booster all rolled into one.

So go ahead, grab that pen or pencil, and let your imagination run wild. You’re not just scribbling – you’re tapping into a whole world of benefits for your mind and soul.

Happy doodling!

P.S.  At one of my keynotes last week I was blown away by how many of the audience had listened to (and loved!) the audiobook version of “The Leading Edge”. A special thanks to Daryl for the best/most original feedback comment “my girlfriend and I both fell in love with you by chapter 4”! 😂 Check it out if you’re looking for an Easter listen here
